Olmo is an Italian bicycle brand founded in 1939 by Giuseppe Olmo. Giuseppe Olmo was himself a successful cyclist who won a gold medal at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, among other things. After his career ended, he started manufacturing bicycles and founded the Olmo company, which soon became known for its high-quality racing bikes. In the 1960s and 1970s, Olmo was particularly successful in road cycling, when the brand was used by many professional cycling teams and riders. Famous cyclists such as five-time Tour de France winner Jacques Anquetil and Italian cyclist Giuseppe Saronni rode Olmo racing bikes.
The Olmo Competition is a racing bike model by Olmo that was first produced in the 1970s. It was a very successful racing bike and was ridden by many professional cycling teams and racers. The model was handmade in Italy and was characterized by its high quality workmanship and materials. The frame was made of Columbus steel tubes and had a classic racing bike geometry. The frame was light and stiff enough to meet the needs of racers, but at the same time comfortable enough for long rides. In the 1980s, the Olmo Competition was re-released in a revised version with a more aerodynamic frame and new color variants. The model remained on offer until the 1990s.
The Campagnolo Super Record groupset was the ultimate derailleur of its time. All sorts of strange claims were made: the aluminum was some kind of super special alloy, the black anodizing was some kind of super special coating, etc. The truth is a little more banal. The aluminum used is exactly the same alloy that was used on the Nuovo Record. The black anodizing is - wait for it - black anodized.
The real technical differences were the use of exotic material for the two large Allen bolts and a larger "flange" on the pulley cage. The derailleur feels good in the hand, has a timeless look and feels valuable simply because it was once so absurdly expensive. It's hard to define what makes a classic, but whatever it is, the Campagnolo Super Record has done the job.
