Legnano Gran Premio

The beautiful green Legnano racing bike and trademark of the traditional Italian brand had not yet been invented when the company was founded in 1902, but the workshop quickly took off and began producing its own bikes in 1906. After Emilio Bozzi (Frejus) and Franco Tosi from Legnano gradually took over the company, a real group developed, which was the second largest bicycle manufacturer in Italy after the Second World War. Professionals such as Fausto Coppi on a track bike or Baldini on a Roma Olimpiade model celebrated great success on the company's racing bikes and made it so famous.
The "Gran Premio" is one of their most famous models. The older models of the Legnano Gran Premio were made of high quality steel, making them robust and responsive. The equipment of the Gran Premio could vary depending on the year of manufacture. There are models with first generation Campagnolo Record derailleurs, but also frames with a Nuovo Record. Legnano is known for its characteristic green, known as "Legnano Green". The Legnano Gran Premio has been produced in various versions over the years. It has historical significance as it was popular during the glorious era of Italian cycling, especially in the 1960s and 1970s. A great road bike for collectors & enthusiasts or those who want to become one.
While the Campagnolo Record from 1963 was a bitter disappointment for many racing drivers, the Campagnolo Nuovo Record group and especially the rear derailleur were groundbreaking. For over 16 years, this group was the non-plus-ultra in competitive racing and drove one racing driver after another to victory. Its strengths include its lightness, very stable construction and good workmanship. The group's front derailleur in particular occupies an important place in cultural history. Since then, it was no longer just a bicycle component, but was suddenly seen as a piece of jewelry, which was an absolute luxury product due to its enormous price.
