It had long become convention for former cycling champions to become frame builders and bicycle manufacturers after their active careers ended. Dave Lloyd is no stranger to this tradition. His cycling career began in 1969. In 1972 he finished seventh in the Milk Race, won the William Tell GP, defeating Francesco Moser and Freddy Maertens, and competed in the Munich Olympics. After switching to the pros at Raleigh in 1973, he enjoyed an extremely successful period. Lloyd opened his first shop back in the 1970s. During his time as a professional rider, he acquired serious frame building skills from Harry Quinn and perfected the craft under the tutelage of Terry Dolan. After setting up his own company with his own brand and home-built bicycles, Lloyd devoted 13 years to frame building.
Here we present one of the most striking creations: The Dave Lloyd Concept was characterized by a geometry that had been largely forgotten since the beginning of the 20th century. It was considered the first racing bike to be equipped with a sloping top tube! No lugs were provided for this special geometry. Lloyd therefore relied on the complex technique of fillet soldering for the crucial connections, followed by careful smoothing. This time-consuming process resulted in a light and extremely stable frame. Particularly noteworthy is the elegant and flexible wishbone solution that Lloyd chose for the seat stays.
